Wolves Win in Shootout

September 07, 2012

The Sudbury Wolves opened up their first game of the 2012-13 preseason on the road with a thrilling come from behind 4-3 shootout win against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

The Greyhounds jumped out to a 3-1 lead after two periods led by goals from Alex Morgan, Brandon Alderson, and David Broll.  Rookie Zack McFadden had the Wolves lone goal in the first two frames.

With five seconds remaining in the second period, Greyhounds overage forward Brandon Alderson received a five-minute checking to the head major as well as a game misconduct for his hit on Wolves defenseman Jeff Corbett.

The Wolves took full advantage of Alderson’s costly penalty as rookie free-agent Jake Ryan banged home a rebound to beat Greyhounds net minder Matt Murray to cut the deficit to one.

Less than five minutes later Wolves forward Dominik Kubalik made a great heads up play as he circled the Hounds net and beat Murray on the far side to tie up the game up at three.

No overtime was played as the game went directly to the shootout where the Wolves proved victorious on a game winning shootout goal by promising sophomore Nick Baptiste.

The Wolves are back in action at home on Friday, September 7th as they kick off their home exhibition schedule against the Kitchener Rangers.
