The Sudbury Wolves are pleased to announce the selection of CONOR CUMMINS as the Wolves' first selection in the 2012 OHL PRIORITY SELECTION presented by STATE FARM INSURANCE.
CUMMINS, 16, is a big, strong, 6'2" defenceman that weighs-in at 205 lbs. The Whitby, Ontario native is a smooth-skating two-way defenceman that plays a physical game and isn't afraid to jump-up into the rush. In 29 games this season, the youngster recorded six goals, nine assists for 15 points and added 28 minutes in penalties.
"With the pending maturation of our blueline it was important for us to draft a blue-chip defenceman that will anchor our defense corps in the future" notes Wolves' GM Blaine Smith. "Conor is an excellent two-way defenceman. He skates and handles the puck well, he makes a good outlet pass and he is difficult to play against in his own end. We are thrilled to draft one of the premiere defencemen in this year's OHL Priority Selection."
The Wolves presently enjoy having six defencemen scheduled to return this season. The Wolves will see five of the six returning defencemen graduating after the 2012-13 season. It was important for the Wolves to insure the future of their blueline with a solid prospect like Cummins.
"Three years ago we began the building process by drafting defencemen JUSTIN SEFTON and FRANK CORRADO with our first two draft picks in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection" adds Smith. "It is now time for Justin and Frank to lead our blueline in the 2012-13 season as they enter their fourth and final season in the OHL. Conor will help insure that the Wolves will remain successful in the future and he will gain some valuable experience learning from veterans like Justin and Frank in the process."
CUMMINS and his fellow Wolves' prospects will make their first trip to Sudbury on May 5th when the Wolves host the annual ROOKIE CAMP at the Countryside Arena.
