The Sudbury Wolves hosted the Oshawa Generals on Friday night, and were looking to continue their hot play of late. Despite being down early, the Pack went on the attack and won their 6th in a row by defeating the Generals by a final score of 5 - 4.
The Generals jumped out to the early 2 - 0 lead in the first period with Christian Thomas scoring both goals with the first being on the powerplay. The Wolves responded in the latter half the frame with a goal by JOSH LEIVO (JOSH MCFADDEN, JOHAN MATTSSON), for his 9th on the year, and a powerplay marker from BRODY SILK (LEIVO, MCFADDEN) to tie the game 2 - 2 at the first intermission.
The Wolves broke the deadlock at the 7:07 mark of the second period with a powerplay goal from MCFADDEN (MICHAEL MACDONALD, KRISTOFF KONTOS) and the teams headed into the second intermission with the Wolves leading 3 - 2.
The third period was a wild affair with lots of attack and lots of tension with a parade to the penalty box. LEIVO (KONTOS) scored his second goal of the night at 7:34 to give the Wolves a two-goal lead, which was later increased to 3 goal after MATHEW CAMPAGNA scored a beauty shorthanded goal at 17:44 for his 7th goal on the season. The Generals were not done, however, as Nicklas Jensen scored two powerplay markers at 19:12 and 19:51 to pull the Generals within one but it was as close as they would come as the Wolves went on to win by a final.
Wolves starting netminder JOHAN MATTSSON was solid in goal, making 30 saves for the win, while counterpart Kevin Bailie was a little busier making 39 saves in the loss.
The game's three stars were: 1 - JOSH LEIVO; 2 - JOSH MCFADDEN; 3 - KRISTOFF KONTOS. The Dickies Hardest Working Player was MIKE MACDONALD.
NOTES: Specialty teams were a factor in the game as the Wolves went 2 for 5 on the powerplay and scored a shorthanded goal, while the Generals went 3 for 5 on the powerplay....Forward Michael Sgarbossa was a game-time scratch after suffering a lower-body injury in the Soo on Wednesday night. He remains day-to-day.....the announced attendance was 3734...the winner of the 50/50 draw was DANIEL PHILIPPE of Sudbury.
