Thank You Labranche Family

May 24, 2012

JENNIFER & MARCEL LABRANCHE have always been fans of the Wolves, but on a recommendation from another billet and close friend decided to explore becoming a billet and gave the Wolves’ office a call. 12 years later, they have decided it is time to move on, but will never forget the memories they have made and the amazing people they have met.

The first year the Labranche family were billets was in 2000 when they billeted 16-year-old Thunder Bay native, DANIEL SPEER. “He paved the way for billeting” says Jennifer, “He was young, enthusiastic and very funny, fit right in with our family and we enjoyed getting to know Dan and his family.”

Since then, Jennifer and Marcel have opened their home to more than 30 players and continue to stay in touch with a few to this day including ALEXANDER EATON, STEVE MILLER, BRANDON GREENSIDE AND DAN SPEER.

This past season, they billeted JOSH MCFADDEN and RYAN HANES who Jennifer says were outstanding young men that were both polite and very focused and driven to succeed.

“When you’re a billet, you’re not only their parents away from home, but you’re also their support system.  You have to provide them with encouragement and lend an ear if they want to talk. Whether they have a grueling schedule or a disappointing night, you have to be there for them.”

When asked about their favourite part of being a Sudbury Wolves Billet, Jennifer says “it has to be getting to know the young men and their families. We have met many wonderful people from around the globe because of this opportunity.” Being a part of the Wolves Club also stood out. “The coaches, staff and people involved in the organization have been fantastic to us.”

“Billeting has been the single most fun thing we have done,” said Jennifer. “It has been the most positive experience and it was such a hard decision for us to decide to leave it behind. It is a much different experience than just being a fan and we strongly recommend becoming a billet.”

Jennifer and her husband Marcel are not giving up on supporting the team completely as they will still be in the stands next year to cheer on the team.

After 12 years of billeting, the Sudbury Wolves are losing a dedicated billet family and the Sudbury Wolves organization would like to thank the Labranche Family for all of their dedication and commitment over the years. You are an amazing part of the Wolves family!
