Solid Win in Peterborough

February 04, 2012

What seems to becoming a trend, the Wolves bounced back from a lowly loss at home on Friday with a big win the next night on the road.  The Pack was in Peterborough on Saturday night, and took command of the game early on and went on to win by a final score 8 - 4.

The Wolves jumped out to a 2 - 0 lead after the first period on the strength of goals from ANDREY KUCHIN (JACOB HARRIS, SAMUEL SCHUTT) and MICHAEL KANTOR (JUSTIN SEFTON, JOSH LEIVO).

The Petes cut the lead in half at 1:18 of the second frame, but the Wolves responded firmly with 4 goals just under four minutes midway through the second period to get to a 6 - 1 lead.  The breakout started with a powerplay marker from MICHAEL SGARBOSSA (JOSH MCFADDEN, KUCHIN) at 8:01 and followed 22 second later with KUCHIN (HARRIS, SCHUTT) scoring his second goal of the game.  Just 1:01 later, MCFADDEN (DEREK SCHOENMAKERS, SGARBOSSA) scored his 7th goal of the season, and rounded out with SGARBOSSA scoring shorthanded at 11:34 for his 30th goal on the year.  The Petes scored on the powerplay before the end of the period to give the Wolves a 6 - 2 lead into the third period.

The Petes opened the scoring in the third period on the powerplay, before the Wolves responded with goals from SCHOENMAKERS (NATHAN PANCEL, FRANK CORRADO) and LEIVO (PANCEL, CHARLIE DODERO).  The Petes netted another goal late in the frame but it wasn't enough as the Wolves go on to win by a final score of 8 - 4.

JOHAN MATTSSON was given the start in goal, and was terrific - making 39 saves for the win.  The Petes tandem of Mike Morrison and Andrew D'Agostini combined for 30 saves in the loss.

MICHAEL SGARBOSSA and ANDREY KUCHIN were named the game's 1st and 3rd star respectively.

The Wolves will look to continue their road-winning ways on Sunday as they close out the weekend in Brampton for a matinee matchup against the Battalion. Game time is 2:00pm.
