Rangers in Town on Friday

September 04, 2012

The Sudbury Wolves will open their pre-season schedule with a road trip to the Sault on Thursday before returning home the very next night for a rare Pre-season match-up with the powerful Kitchener Rangers at 7:30 at the Sudbury Arena.   The Rangers’ line-up is loaded with talent including: NHL-drafted RYAN MURPHY, MATT PEUMPLE, RADEK FAKSA, TOBIAS REIDER and JOHN GIBSON.   The Rangers’ line-up also features 1st round selection 6’5” center MATT SMALTZ.

The Wolves will be looking to carry-over the success that they enjoyed in Russia onto Canadian ice surfaces.  The Wolves had a win-loss record of 4-1-1 In the six games played in the tournament in Omsk, Siberia.   The Wolves are hoping to receive stellar goaltending to assist them in the decision of the Goaltenders that will be selected to start the season with the Wolves.  JOEL VIENNEAU, 20, JOHN CHARTRAND 19, and TAYLOR DUPUIS, 18, have all been playing extremely well to date and the goaltending decision promises to be a very challenging one if all three goaltenders continue to play well.

Wolves’ forwards JOSH LEIVO and MIKE KANTOR will be looking to continue their offensive production here in Canada after finishing 1-2 in scoring in the JUNIOR CLUB WORLD CUP tournament.   LEIVO was the tournament’s leading scorer with 11 points while KANTOR finished with 8 points.   Friday’s game will also be the first opportunity for Wolves’ fans to watch the Wolves’ 17 year old European import players DOMINIK KUBALIK and DOMINIK KAHUN.   Both young import players have had excellent starts since joining the Wolves in Moscow for the first time in mid-August.

JUNGLE GYMNASTICS will be sponsoring Friday’s game with Kitchener.   Be sure to enroll your son or daughter in the Fall program at JUNGLE GYMNASTICS In the south end of the City.

Tickets are now on sale at the Sudbury Arena ticket office for Friday’s home game against Kitchener.   Admission is only $12 for all ages.
